I started training at The Art Department in February, so it’s been about a month of foundations classes so far. I’m really digging the program; lots of great teachers, the classes are going great, and I really like the other students, as well. I am well outside my comfort zone, learning a variety of new traditional techniques and mediums that I’ve never explored before. I couldn’t ask for a better place to be learning the art of picture making, and I get to stay here in Austin to boot. Who woulda thunk it.
Here is a little appetizer sampler plate of some of the art I’ve been working on for the past month:
Composition & Color Theory Class:
Black and White Abstract images to communicate Emotion
Lots of various sketching assignments:
My first gouache painting ever. I love painting and now I’m really excited about this medium after trying it out in my sketchbook. It has a very loose quality to it and it dries super quickly so it’s perfect for a sketchbook. After seeing Erik Tiemens’ gouache paintings I know this is a medium I am going to enjoy for a very long time.
Live Figure Drawing 3/11/11:
I am really happy with the creeper image, one of the best figures I’ve done yet. Goran Photobombed one of my shots.
Nupastel Chalk figure drawings for John English & Jane Radstrom’s figure drawing class. I love this technique and am learning so much, but I have a whole lot more to learn in order to get proper proportions and rendering. It will be great to look back at the end of the semester and see how far I’ve come from this point.
